Disney Goes Dark

February 13, 2023

In a protest against recent actions by Gov. Ron DeScantis and the State of Florida, Walt Disney World is closing its doors for only the second time since the park opened in 1954. A spokesperson from ConGlom Corporation, the parent company of Disney World Florida, stated that the temporary closure “will cost the company much less than it will end up costing the State.” A national press release was sent out earlier today notifying guests that all of Disney owned properties in the Greater Orlando Area will be closed at midnight on Thursday, February 16th. The closure will extend through the upcoming Presidents Day weekend, with properties reopening on Tuesday, February 21st. Robert Burns, Director of Media Relations, stated that he was saddened at the need for this ‘drastic measure’, and hopes that Gov. DeSantis ‘will see the error in going to war against a national treasure.’ Representatives from the Governor’s office refused to comment on the situation, citing ‘ongoing negotiations’.
