Hawthorne Hornets (1-0) host Newberry Panthers (1-0) as the Back to back champions are looking for their 27th win the Panthers come to Hawthorne looking to upset the Hornets and finally get revenge from last years 1R playoff loss. As the Hornets defense starts the game off holding the Panthers to just 7-3 in the first half as the second half starts the Panthers strike first with a Collin Dunmore touchdown pass and the extra point is good. But the Hornets had a quick response driving down field led by Quarterback Adrian Curtis with a Touchdown Pass. The Hornets defense forces a punt and Kenon Johnson takes the ball downfield and punches it in giving the hornets a 21-10 lead early 4th Quarter. As everyone thinks the game is over Newberry goes down the field and take a field goal cutting Hawthorne's lead to 21-13 as they recovered the onside kick Collin Dunmore takes the offense downfield and punches it in 21-19 they go for 2 and it is good. 21-21 with 0:15 in the 4th Quarter. Hawthorne holds the ball until Overtime where Newberry wins the Toss and wants defense first. Adrian Curtis scrambles outside and scored 28-21 Hornets. Newberry goes downfield and scores a Touchdown of their own but they had other plans in mind. They decide to go for two which fails and ultimately puts a end to this thriller.
