Government to abolish benefits

October 16, 2024

The Government is looking into abolishing benefits to get people back at work. This comes as unemployment rates stay at a record high of 40%. Chancellor says, “We must get people back to work, which is why we are looking to reform benefits, and possibly get rid of them, alongside maternity leave of more than 4 weeks. We have signed a contract with a UK company, to bring 30,000 jobs on-island in the next month, which will boost the economy”. The islands economy is struggling, with inflation at 17.4%, predicted to rise to over 20% next month. Household bills have risen 125%, alongside record breaking fuel prices. BOJ are predicting the economy to contract a further 3.2% in the next report, as wages continue to not rise, and spending drops.
