CHIEF MINISTER ANNOUNCES GE 1ST MARCH, 2026

December 29, 2025

Following careful consideration and consultation, I have today taken the decision to dissolve the States Assembly and call a general election to be held on 1 March. A new Council of Ministers will take office from 1 April. Jersey is facing significant challenges that require clear direction, stability, and public confidence. In recent days, concerns have been raised about the condition of key infrastructure and the need for decisive long-term investment to protect our environment and public services. I believe the right course is to return to Islanders for a fresh mandate — not to engage in political manoeuvring, but to allow the public to decide who should lead the next phase of action and reform. Between now and the election, the government will continue to operate in a caretaker capacity, ensuring continuity of essential services and the delivery of necessary remedial works already underway. This election will give Islanders the opportunity to choose the leadership and policies required to secure Jersey’s future, strengthen infrastructure, and maintain confidence in public administration. Further information on election arrangements will be issued by the States Greffe in due course.
