Small Device Currently on Mars Is Generating as Much Oxygen as a Tree, Scientists Reveal
The device is called the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment, or MOXIE. It is a small box that has a series of chemistry experiments to extract oxygen from the Martian atmosphere and store it in tanks for future use.
MOXIE was developed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The project is a part of NASA's larger efforts to send humans to Mars in the 2030s.
